• Are highly trained Professionals with a Bachelor of Science degree, specialising in injury assessment and rehabilitation, emergency care, education and total active care

• Have passed the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association certification examination and requirements, one of the most stringent in the Canadian health care system and must present annual documentation demonstrating continued professional development to maintain their status with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association

• Are specialists in the care and rehabilitation of injuries treating not only the injured part but also the individual as a whole. The different approach of the Certified Athletic Therapist often achieves good results with injuries that have not responded well to other conservative approaches

• Have a sound knowledge of sciences and rehabilitation techniques with emphasis on patient education, flexibility, strength and conditioning programs

• Perform accurate assessments of physically active patients with musculoskeletal problems followed by active treatments incorporating the latest in exercise, manual therapy, and rehabilitation modalities

• Have a distinct advantage in dealing with the physically active patient because of their unique expertise in motion analysis and mechanism of injury

• Are particularly well prepared to rehabilitate injured athletes, because of their training in the utilization of exercise progressions which are aggressive and tailored to the needs of the particular injury
