Module 2: Must Have Myofascial Release

In this module we will be focusing on releasing the myofacsia in the lower body.

What is myofascia you ask?

Fascia, is the connective tissue that surrounds all of your tissues. It surrounds your muscles, groups of muscles, your organs and vessels. It is a wonderful network of tissue much like a spider web that runs continuously from your head to your toes.

Unlike muscles with distinct start and end points, fascia is continuous and interweaves parts of the body that may not be close in location.

Research is showing us that most injury occurs in the myofascia as opposed to the muscles themselves.

Fascia absorbs impact and can become stuck in a pattern that blocks our ability to move freely. It can also become scarred creating pain and pulling in different parts of the body.

To get started releasing tension in your fascia, you will need your...

1. myofascial ball

2. exercise mat

I have designed a 30 minute routine for you to follow along with. Remember to use your breath and stay present to the sensations that you feel with the release.

Set a goal to do this routine 2 x week for the next 2 weeks.

If you are short on time or find it tiring for your upper body, you can divide the routine in to 2 Segments.

Complete the first 15 minutes in one session and the remaining 15 minutes on a subsequent day.

Once you get the hang of it, you can customize the routine to suit your needs, going longer on the days when you have time and shorter sessions of release when need be!

Now that you've had a chance to release your fascia...

Did you notice a shift or change?

Perhaps you've become aware of areas in your body that you are holding tension in, that weren't even on your radar before.

Everything in your body is surrounded by fascia.

For example, when we release the fascia in our hips, it can shift how we feel in our jaw all the way down to our feet. Have you begun to notice these connections?

To help you integrate myofascial release, into your "Body Care" routine, I've created a Check List for you to use.
